Adidas (called “Adidas” since 1949) is a well-known German manufacturer of sports shoes and clothing, represented by its three-stripe trademark. The company is also known for its high-profile endorsement deals, with NBA star Derrick Rose and Argentine-born soccer (soccer) star Lionel Messi signing a lifetime deal with Adidas in 2017. Adidas has met both success and controversy over its brand of Yeezy, a collaboration with rapper Kanye West.

The history of the famous shoe line started in 1920 by Adi (Adolf) Dassler in his mother’s laundry room. Adi Dassler’s time was spent in a small business making athletic shoes. Thanks to shoe design, a small business is finally coming through. In 1924, Adi Dassler and his brother Rudolf Dassler founded “Dassler Brothers OGH,” which later became the first Adidas.

Adidas manufactures a range of clothing items, varying from men’s and women’s t-shirts, jackets, hoodies, pants, and leggings.

The first Adidas apparel item was the Franz Beckenbauer tracksuit, created in 1967. Adidas AG is the largest manufacturer of sports bras in Europe and the second largest manufacturer globally.

Until 2024, the company’s primary source of revenue is footwear (55%), followed by sportswear and fashion-related apparel (38%). The remaining 7% of sales come from bags, hats, and accessories.
