A disco ball, also known as a mirror ball, is a spherical object covered in small, mirrored tiles. When light shines on it, the mirrors reflect and scatter the light in various directions, creating a shimmering effect that’s perfect for dance floors and parties. Disco balls became iconic in the 1970s during the disco era, when they were commonly seen in nightclubs, creating a mesmerizing, twinkling effect in sync with the music.

The way it works is simple: as the ball spins, beams of light hit the mirrors and reflect onto surrounding surfaces, casting moving spots of light around the room. Typically, they’re used with spotlights positioned to hit the ball from different angles for an amplified effect. They come in various sizes, from small ones for home decor to large ones for bigger venues, and they continue to be popular for parties, dance floors, and even nostalgic decorations.
